Former Walter Payton Award Finalist Julius Chestnut is making his presence felt on the college all-star game circuit.
The Sacred Heart product has earned an invitation to the 10th annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which is set for January 29 at 6:00 pm ET at the historic Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. NFL Network will air the game live.
Prior to receiving the NFLPA opportunity, Chestnut showcased his abilities during Hula Bowl Week in Orlando.Β
NFLDraftBible listed Chestnut as a Hula Bowl “Mover and Shaker” for his week of work in the Sunshine State.
Sacred Heart’s All-American running back announced his intentions to pursue a professional football career following the 2021 Division I FCS season.
The combination of size, speed, power and vision make Chestnut a legitimate pro prospect who should pique the interest of teams looking for a good value at the running back position.
The 6-foot, 225-pounder built quite the collegiate resume over four seasons at SHU highlighted by an incredible five-game stretch last spring.
Earning my vote for the 2020-21 Stats Perform Walter Payton Award (Chestnut finished third overall in the Payton Award Voting), the Archbishop Spaulding product rushed for at least 138 yards and one touchdown in all five spring games. He went over 200 scrimmage yards three times and totaled 12 touchdowns during the COVID-delayed campaign.
Chestnut was a guest on the NFL Draft Bible’s The State Of Football last March, early in the spring season, and I had the chance to sit in as a co-host for the show. You can watch it here.
Chestnut will become the fourth Northeast Conference alumnus to participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
Former Saint Francis safety Lorenzo Jerome earned 2017 NFLPA Bowl MVP honors after making two interceptions in the game and subsequently earning a trip to the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Duquesne alumni OG Ben Huss (2018) and WR Nehari Crawford (2019) played in the NFLPA Bowl before earning rookie camp invitations later that spring.
TROPICAL BOWL RISERS
Shoutout to a trio of small-schoolers for ballin’ at the 2022 Tropical Bowl.
Performing in front of dozens of professional scouts, QB Westin Elliott (Merrimack), CB Caleb Holden (Merrimack) and OL Josh Sokol (Sacred Heart) competed in the prospects’ all-star game.
