The Motor City is the pick for 2024!

The National Football League announced Detroit as the host city for the 2024 NFL Draft on Monday.

It will be the first time that the league hosts the annual event in the Lions’ home city.

The NFL Draft has been on the move in recent years with this spring’s edition set for April 28-30 in Las Vegas.

Following an all-virtual 2020 Draft due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NFL returned to its in-person format last spring in Cleveland.

Kansas City will provide the backdrop for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Then, it’s Detroit’s turn the following year.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Peliserro, the league chose Detroit while also considering Green Bay and Washington, D.C.

“The draft has become a prominent offseason event across the country, and we are excited to work with the Lions and their partners to bring the 2024 NFL Draft to the Motor City,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a statement released by the league office. “With the help of Visit Detroit, the Detroit Sports Commission, and the City of Detroit the Lions passionate fan base and all visitors will be treated to an incredible three-day experience.”

RALPH’S PREDICTION: With the announcement of a new stadium in the works for the Buffalo Bills, the NFL will eventually bring the Draft to Western New York. It’s been an unwritten rule in recent years that a new stadium will result in a Super Bowl host bid, but there’s little chance the league ever hosts the Big Game at an open-air facility in WNY. Instead, the league will “reward” New York State and the Greater Niagara region for its stadium investment by shuffling one of its marquee events – the NFL Draft – off to Buffalo.

IN OTHER DETROIT FOOTBALL NEWS, the Lions will be the featured team on HBO’s Hard Knocks this summer.
